Missions

The following is a short testimony of how our support is making a difference for people in Colorado's prison system which is partially possible because God's people at Presbyterian Church of Broomfield support Good News Jail Ministry.

I'm Finally at Peace with God.

I Guess I Needed to be Locked up to Discover God's love

My name is Mary. I started smoking pot when I was 13 and began having sex at 14. One night I was arrested at a party and I spent the night in a small town jail. My life didn't improve much from that moment on.

I would go babysitting and get drunk. I'd drink, black out, and get sick. I did so many things I would live to regret like using pot, cocaine, speed, meth, Valium and acid. Later in life I was arrested on two counts of forgery, one count of accessory to a felony, along with a federal indictment for conspiracy of possession with intent to deliver.

The real me is beginning to emerge

But that's the past. Today, God is using a Good News chaplain in my life. I've learned more about God behind bars than I ever knew about Him before. I could never have made this much spiritual progress on my own. I guess I needed to be locked up in a dark place before I could begin to see the light.  It had been so long since I had felt any emotions. Now, behind bars, I feel sad, depressed, relieved, grateful, and angry. It had been years since I had cried.

Now the pain of so many years is gushing out. As it does, the Good News chaplain is there by my side to listen and understand.

No more life of crime

At first I just rolled my eyes saying, "The chaplain's probably a hypocrite. Why listen? I'll just be disappointed." But then I felt the chaplain's honest love and true compassion. I was never judged.  Never. That's what began to turn my life around.  I will never return to a life of crime although I know I'll always struggle with my sinful habits. Please pray that I will always seek the fellowship of other Christians in the days ahead. God bless you for your generous donations that make Good News chaplains available to us
